Vegas teh Dog:
Thanks everyone for the well wishes, and is doing awesome. I took him to the specialist this past Friday, who initially seemed a bit cold, but warmed up after Vegas was allowed off leash and got to work his mojo. He was voted Cutest Dog of the Day by the office staff, and was allowed to jump up on everyone where he got petted and kissed, thereby ruining all that training that Adam did. The specialist thought his problems were a more likely food alergy (a possibility I raised to the first vet, and was shot down), or an intestional worm that comes from eating crickets or beatles. Deworming treatment? $1.50 Amount on treatment spent with the other vet? 1000 times that; a figure that really ticked off the TheKid, but one that I came to accept weeks ago.
I'm glad he's feeling better, but those of you who know me well know that I'm bummed that I no longer have anyone to protect me from the evil crickets. [Deathly afraid of crickets.] The weather has turned colder, so I think I'm safe till next Spring, but then I'm going to need to get a cat.
Vegas the City:
Room block is at TI. I don't have details yet on how we're booking the rooms (either you're going to do it yourself like last time, or I'm going to give them a list), but here's the rates:
12/7- $79
12/8- $139
12/9-$139
12/10- $79
12/11-$79
If you don't want to stay at TI, that's perfectly fine. My only advice to you would be to book a room now though, because things are filling up fast.
Regarding the tournament -
I'm hearing from a lot of people (and by "a lot" I mean a number equal to about 1/3 those who have RSVP'd) that they're not going to play in the tournament. That's perfectly fine. My question to you all is, do we want to have one this trip? I've always thought the tournaments were great for giving us at least one time we were all in the same room (minus those who were passed out in bed cough *helixx* cough), BUT so far we're looking to be a much smaller group this time around, so that may not be such an issue. It might be that those who really want to play a tourney hit one of the many varied tournaments around town instead. Let me know what you think.
If we do have a tournament, the Venetian is out, due to their apparently non-negotiable $40 per player fee.

If there's a tournament, I'll play. If there's not, you'll all have to find another way to get my money. But I'm cool either way.
And fuck a big bag of the Venetian. The IP would probably have us again, and they were very accomodating, it seemed.
Why don't we just storm the Sahara 11AM tourney and turn it into a blogger event?

Look me up on Stars sometime as I've recently changed my avatar to a cricket. ;)

check out the rates at the IP - https://www.imperialpalace.com/rates.php
not bad, less than what the TI is offering and centrally located

I like the idea of storming a daily tourney together and the satisifaction of a one/couple of us making a final table.
Maybe hitting up Binion's 2am tourney for those not passed out at MGM?
Posted by: Drizztdj at October 25, 2006 08:51 AM
I know some people are fond of the Sahara's tourneys (11am, 7pm, 11pm).

i'm planning to make this trip. i'm down with bumrushing another casino tourney, maybe Sahara?
Posted by: smokkee at October 25, 2006 02:15 PM
I'd prefer for us to have our own tourney (tradition, I s'pose), but bumrushing a pre-existing one is fine too. I'm staying at Flamingo, by the way. Travelocity had a very attractive rate.

They actually knocked like 10 bucks off similiar rates last year... I understand there is some stigma attached to being at the same place, but, if the price is right... course, we could stay here and have the tourney else where... and I believe IP has a tourney on Sunday
I am good for whatever tho..

You people are killing me.
I'm not against staying at the same place as before, but the IP is cheap for a reason. Our last time there, everyone loved to complain about it - why would I think people just really wanted to go back?
I picked TI b/c it was close to our original tourney location, is a part of the strip we haven't stayed in before, people were already booked there, and has nice rooms for a reasonable extremely-popular-weeked-in-Vegas price.
Again, if people prefer to stay at IP (or anywhere else!) for either the location and/or the price, then by all means do so. There is no rule that says we all have to stay together, and we haven't always. We'll all be on the Strip, it's not like we won't be close!
If anything, my objection to the IP is more of a moral one, b/c Harrah's is just going to take your money and bring you crappy tournaments and Bill Frist.
And in fact, if I don't get the booking info from TI soon, I'm weasling my way in to the MGM Grand.

for a decent cheap room on the strip, try Sahara ($69 nt). downside to Sahara is it's on the North side of the strip. you'll have to cab to most other hotels. Tropicana is not as cheap ($169/nt) but, cheaper than MGM and you can walk from the Trop to Donkey Palace (bridge to MGM from the Trop).
Posted by: smokkee at October 26, 2006 01:39 PM
I like the idea of staying somewhere I haven't stayed before and the rates aren't that bad, escpecially if you find people to room with. I did find a package deal for TI through Southwest that would be slightly less than Airfair and hotel seperate but I'm only talking about $20 per person less.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank you again for planning another trip. I really appreciate it and I look forward to seeing you and everyone else.

I will not play any tourney pre-arranged or stormed. But I am old and cranky.
Posted by: Chilly at October 28, 2006 04:07 PM
Reality:
We always end up playing at the MGM.
We always have a blogger tournament.
Where we stay has started to drift a bit because some people have deals with certin casinos for free nights.
In sum, I vote for a blogger tournament and also rushing one after...also, a cheap room is good for the soul...so where you find it you find it...we will all end up at the MGM in the end.

I have just booked my flights (slightly jumping the gun, but I see no reason why my taking Monday off of work should not be approved). Haven't sorted where I am staying yet. And I'd like to get into a tournament with all you folks, even if it is tagging along to one filled with civilians.

I am going to be in Vegas that weekend. Count me in if there is a blogger tournament.
